Magnus Dahl Olsen (36) is new to the technology company EasyX. He will be working on research and development of the company's cleaning robot for land-based aquaculture.

EasyX supplies cleaning robots for hatcheries and fish farms. The company is based at Damsgård in Bergen and now has seven employees.

On July 8, Magnus Dahl Olsen (36) started as a new development engineer in the company. His job will be to work closely with customers to further develop the product and make it as good as possible, as well as facilitating a larger series production of the product.

Magnus Dahl Olsen comes from Lofoten and has grown up with fishing and aquaculture close to him. - "I've gotten good at eating fish," says the new research and development manager at EasyX.

I have extensive experience of research and development and thrive in small start-up companies that innovate, so when I got to know EasyX I had no doubt that this was where I wanted to be. Here you can really contribute in every way and get ownership of what you're working on," he tells LandbasedAQ.

- Contribute with creativity

The 36-year-old from Lofoten was born and raised inSvolvær in Lofoten, and points out that he is good at eating fish. He moved to Bergen in 2014 for work, and has stayed ever since.

"My ambitions for the future are to contribute a lot of knowledge and creativity, while at the same time learning more about the aquaculture industry," he says.

Technical background

Dahl Olsen is a qualified aircraft mechanic, but after completing his bachelor's degree in mechatronics, he has worked extensively with research and development.

I started by developing seismic nodes for the oil and gas industry, and since then it's been everything from 3D scanning and reverse engineering to developing snow radar in the mountains.

Why did you choose this career path?

Initially, it was coincidence that did it. I was going to be a pilot and wanted to get to know the planes by turning them on first. Working on putting things together and seeing how lots of parts work together in harmony led me to train as an engineer, sprinkle on lots of creativity and you quickly end up developing and innovating," he says.

Scaling phase

EasyX CEO Sindre Hansen tells Kyst.no that they have hired Dahl Olsen as a consultant since February and have been very pleased with what he has brought to the company.

So the moment the opportunity arose, we hired Magnus. He has good values, works well with the rest of the team and is also very good at what he does. EasyX is now in a scaling phase where organizational development is high on the agenda.

The company now has a total of seven permanent employees in EasyX. In addition, they have consultancy contracts with people who work for them in marketing, finance and business development.

As we are only seven employees, we are the ones who create the company culture and the foundation on which the company will grow, so in this phase the employees are extremely important and we therefore go to great lengths to get hold of the very best," Hansen points out.

Has aquaculture and fisheries in its backbone

Hansen believes Olsen's genuine interest in technology and development has been an important factor in his appointment, not least the fact that he sees the work he does as something far more than just a 7-3 job.
